Correction: The Global Draw went to Scientific Games, not Inspired

A column of 29 September said Inspired inherited The Global Draw. It did not, and the only real link is one person's biography.

Generated figure from the Gallop Post desk — a corrected ownership chain, with the wrong arrow struck through and the filing date beside the right one.
The corrected chain: Global Draw to Scientific Games in April 2006, and on to Light & Wonder. Inspired is not on it. Gallop Post graphics

This desk got a company wrong. A column published on 29 September 2026 under the heading "Five brands, one animation house" said that Inspired Entertainment owns the terminal business The Global Draw and inherited its retail estate. Inspired does not own it and never did. The sentence should not have run, and it has been struck from the column with a note.

The record runs the other way. Scientific Games completed the acquisition of The Global Draw on 20 April 2006, for approximately US$183 million plus an earn-out and performance bonuses, describing it in the filing as a leading United Kingdom supplier of fixed odds betting terminals and systems and interactive sports betting systems. Scientific Games bought Barcrest from IGT in 2011 and folded it into Global Draw and Games Media. The Global Draw is listed today as a wholly owned subsidiary of Light & Wonder, Scientific Games' successor.

Where the two stories touch is a person, not a balance sheet. Hydra Industries Acquisition Corp, the vehicle that agreed on 14 July 2016 to acquire Inspired Gaming Group at a £200 million valuation, was assembled by Lorne Weil, the former Scientific Games chairman and chief executive. That is the likeliest source of the association this paper repeated. It is a biography, not a corporate inheritance.

A second figure in the same column needs tightening rather than retracting. We gave Inspired's retail distribution as 32,000 venues. Inspired's annual report for 2024 gives approximately 30,000 retail venues in one section and approximately 32,000 in another, and states "20+" jurisdictions in one place against approximately 32 in another. The filing disagrees with itself. The honest form is the range, and from here this paper prints 30,000 to 32,000 venues with the year attached.

One thing the original column had right, and this desk will keep saying. Inspired's own founding year is not established on any primary source. Business-history pages offer 2002, company-profile aggregators variously 2001, 2006 and 2014, and the company's annual reports carry no founding history at all. Until a filing says otherwise there is no founding date for Inspired in this paper, and a column that needs one has a different problem.
