The Class B Sprint was race six at Brolga Park, 520 metres out of eight boxes at 8.53pm two days ago. Draw id BRO-R6-0E4568, seed 0e4568e3de2853f8, settled at 20:54 on a book of 114.4 — the smallest book the circuit has published.

It was also the flattest table the programme has resulted. Brindle Jack held 241 of the 1,000 numbers in box one and Gummy Shark 224 in box six, seventeen numbers apart. Rip Rag held 181 in box seven. The thinnest block, Dusty Boots on 48, was a fifth of the top one, and the five-fold spread is the narrowest of the 21 cards.

Four of the eight carried a published form line and four did not. The box draw runs to the Australian rug colours and the distance is measured from the front of the boxes to the line, which is how Greyhound Racing Victoria measures a race distance (GRV glossary, read 18 October 2026). Railing, a wide run and early speed are all read off the splits afterwards and none of them held a number.

Prices on this page are the draw weighting in another notation. They are reference figures published with the card, not odds available anywhere, and not a betting recommendation.

A field is fixed when the card is published: there are no scratchings, no non-runners and no starting price. Why that follows from the draw.

The draw

The result is a weighted draw of 1,000 numbers without replacement: each runner holds a block of numbers in proportion to its price, a number is drawn once, and the animation is rendered from the order that comes out. Everything used to produce this race is printed below, so the race can be reconstructed.

A draw without replacement cannot produce a dead heat, and a field that is fixed at publication cannot produce a late scratching. How a virtual race is decided works through the arithmetic in full.

The house line first and last: the finishing order was drawn from the table, so nothing in the splits is a cause and nothing in the form column is evidence.

A flat table produces results that read strangely and are not strange. Box one held 241 numbers, nearly a quarter of the draw, and came out last of eight. Box four held 65 and came out first. On a five-fold spread the eight runners were closer to each other than on any other card the circuit has published, so the table had very little to say beforehand and has nothing at all to say afterwards.

The dividends are where a flat table shows up as arithmetic. The win paid $13.44, the forecast $68.99 and the tricast $232.34, the largest tricast on the resulted programme, because the first three out held 65, 81 and 99 numbers — the sixth, fifth and fourth blocks on the card.

The 14.4 points of overround are the lightest in the programme, which the circuit's own pattern of a hundred plus about two points a runner would have put near 116 for a field of eight. The margin is a per-card number rather than a constant, which is exactly why it is printed on every card.
