The Gidgee Pace is the feature at Gidgee Paceway: 1660 metres from a mobile start at 8.28pm tomorrow, draw id GID-R6-2205E9. The lap is 805 metres of clay with a 190 metre straight and no sprint lane, so the trip is two laps and 50 metres and the field passes the post twice. Read the lap count before reading a sectional off this card. Six stand on the front line and barriers seven and eight on the second.
Harbour Flyer holds 338 of the 1,000 numbers from barrier four and Salt Pan 226 from barrier one, which is 564 between the two of them. The other six share 436. The thinnest block is Night Shift on 31, which is the same pacer that holds 271 in the Kurrajong Mile the night before.
The book is 118.4, against 114.6 for the same eight pacers over the same field size at Kurrajong tonight. Eighteen and four-tenths points of overround go on as one multiplier of 1.184, which reads Harbour Flyer's 33.8 per cent as an implied 40.0 and Night Shift's 3.1 as 3.7. A half-mile lap makes the pegs worth having on screen and worth nothing in the table.

Prices on this page are the draw weighting in another notation. They are reference figures published with the card, not odds available anywhere, and not a betting recommendation.
A field is fixed when the card is published: there are no scratchings, no non-runners and no starting price. Why that follows from the draw.
The draw
The result is a weighted draw of 1,000 numbers without replacement: each runner holds a block of numbers in proportion to its price, a number is drawn once, and the animation is rendered from the order that comes out. Everything used to produce this race is printed below, so the race can be reconstructed.

A draw without replacement cannot produce a dead heat, and a field that is fixed at publication cannot produce a late scratching. How a virtual race is decided works through the arithmetic in full.

Stated as always: no form reads forward into a weighted draw, so this is an argument about the published table and not a forecast. Filed as firm. The full column is in the form desk.
The two cards to read side by side are this one and the Kurrajong Mile, because they are the same eight pacers in the same field size on consecutive nights. Tonight Night Shift holds 271 and Harbour Flyer 48. Tomorrow night Harbour Flyer holds 338 and Night Shift 31. The engine formed no view about either pacer. It published two tables, and the gap between them is the clearest thing on the circuit.
The vocabulary on a Gidgee card is the real vocabulary and it describes the render. A pacer parked out gives ground away on every turn of an 805 metre lap; the death seat outside the leader is called the toughest run in a race by Harness Racing New Zealand's glossary (read 18 October 2026); the one-one has cover and is handy. None of the three is a cause of anything here, because the order was settled at the settle time printed at the head of the card.
One thing this venue never prints is a broken gait. GP-Draw 4.2 does not model gait, so no Gidgee runner breaks, galloped or is placed behind a horse that covered it. The card says so rather than leaving a reader to notice that it never happens.
Mo Farrelly, Form desk
Form desk columns are editorial opinion only. They are not financial advice, not investment recommendations and not an inducement to wager. A weighted draw has no form to read in the predictive sense; what these columns argue about is the published weighting.
